Report on research on the theme of 16КП050-02 "The role of recreation activities and tourism in the improvement of the quality of life of urban elderly people based on the sustainable development grounds" (final): 148 pages, 6 tables, 28 figures, 12 appendixes, 76 sources RECREATION ACTIVITY, TOURISM, QUALITY OF LIFE, URBAN POPULATION, ELDERLY PEOPLE, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Subject matter –focuses on urban elderly people and the role of recreation activities and tourism in the improvement of the quality of life of urban elderly people based on sustainable development grounds Research methods – observation, description, survey, logical and statistical analysis, content analysis, GIS and remote sensing, spatial analysis. Results identify the genesis-historical transformations of the role of recreational activities of the elderly in Ukraine and the principles of formation of social capital in the sphere of tourism and recreation of the elderly; the modern vision of the relationship between urbanization, the change of urban ecology and public health within the framework of the City-Garden concept; features of successful world (European countries, China) practices, active longevity and urban-gardening / horticulture / viticulture in the context of urban development, sustainable management and the needs of the elderly; planning and zoning of urban areas for the purposes of the elderly; typology of recreational facilities for the needs of the elderly; the protection of the rights of the elderly and of green initiatives; the potential and impact on the elderly, society and the market for innovation inventive activities. Six types of local indicators of the sustainable development of the urban environment in connection with the recreational and tourist activity of the elderly are substantiated. The survey of elderly people (1161 respondents) in Kyiv suggested the profile of the attitude and interest of the elderly in relation to certain components of the quality of life, interest, and practice of various types of recreational and tourist activity, legal awareness. The observations and description of urban gardening examples in different parts of the city of Kyiv (3 of 10 key areas) disclose the prospects of urban gardening taking into account the transformation and spatial structure of green plantations of the city of Kyiv. The proposals to the General Plan of the city of Kyiv development by 2025 were publicly presented at the session of the Scientific Councils of Geographic Union of Ukraine of the Geography Faculty, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (16 March 2017). Harmonization of the methodologies and areas of research provides prospects for the transfer of successful experience and implementation of urban-horticulture /gardening/viticulture and innovative integration of the elderly and recommendations of the joint project of Kyiv city municipality and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Identification of local indicators of sustainable development (by age categories, territorial differentiation of the structural hierarchy) determines the need for further development of indicator analysis of the territorial differentiation of sustainable development and elaboration of the model of local indicators for the city of Kyiv for decision-making and strategic planning of sustainable development of the city. The research outcomes and tested methods found implementation in the education and training process in the disciplines “Tourism policy and governance of regional tourism development” (MSc. programme “Tourism”), “Geography of Urbo-recreation and urban tourism”, “Geographic grounds of sustainable development; balanced recreation and tourism. (MSc. “Geography of recreation and tourism”), “Geographic grounds of sustainable development: balanced eno-recreation and tourism” “International co-operation in eno-recreation and tourism” (MSc.” Geography of eno-recreation and tourism”), “Research methods in Tourism” (Bachelor programme, “Tourism”). The report includes the results of one master thesis, materials of three Ph.D. research. Academic and scientific-practical presentation and dissemination include domestic and international conferences, seminars, public discussions at scientific councils meetings, about 10 topical abstracts and papers
